New Zealand Superannuation Fund makes key appointments

The New Zealand Superannuation Fund, which recently purchased a 35% stake in technology services company Datacom (www.datacom.co.nz), has appointed Michael Coomer and Brett Sutton as its representatives on the Datacom Board of Directors.
Mr Coomer is the Chairman of Volare Investment in Singapore and a Board Member of ASB Bank. Over a 30+year career in business and information technology he has held senior roles with organisations including EDS (as Executive Vice-President for Asia Pacific & Japan, and for Global Financial Services), National Australia Bank, where he was CIO; Westpac Banking Corporation; IBM and Ansett. Mr Coomer is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
Mr Sutton was most recently the Fund’s Head of Direct Investment, a role which he held for three and a half years. Prior to joining the Fund Mr Sutton spent 17 years with Todd Capital as an investment manager. He has a BCA from Victoria University.
Nigel Gormly has been appointed Head of Direct Investment for the New Zealand Superannuation Fund. This role has responsibility for the Fund’s direct investments both in New Zealand and offshore, including its holdings in Datacom, Z Energy, Kaingaroa and Transurban. Mr Gormly joins the Fund after 10 years with Fonterra, where he held various strategic development and commercial leadership roles, most recently as General Manager Commercial, Global Portfolio Optimisation. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he has a BSc/BCom and a Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Auckland.
